DescriptionYou are invited to Melbourne’s first free Irish Singer’s Club. Kathryn Clements has led many sessions both here in Melbourne, and at numerous festivals, with the aim of providing a welcoming space for all singers to share in the beauty and joy of song. Kathryn’s warm and engaging personality is infectious as she shares her passion for the songs and stories she has gathered from the masters of the tradition. She has led workshops in Traditional Irish Song for many years and delights in passing on this ancient tradition of unaccompanied song. All singers and songwriters and musicians are welcome and Kathryn will also teach a selection of songs. Song sheets are provided! Traditional, contemporary and original songs are all welcome. So if you have always wanted a warm and welcoming space to sing your heart out, this is the setting for you! Imagine a roaring open fire, Guinness on tap and hearty fare as we sit in a circle sharing songs and stories. Hopefully there will be lashings of rain outside to add to the authenticity of it all! So tell all your friends who love to sing or simply listen whilst quietly sipping on a Guinness! Kathryn was born in Melbourne, Australia and her love of music first began as a child singing Irish songs with her father. But it was her first trip to Ireland in 1985 which truly sparked her interest in the music, songs and dance of the Celtic tradition. Since then she has toured Ireland on five occasions, performing in festivals and attending summer schools, including representing Australia in the prestigious Fleadh Cheoil na hEirann in Ballina, Co. Mayo. In Australia, Kathryn has performed at several folk festivals in Port Fairy, Tasmania, and Canberra where she won the Lis Johnston Memorial Award for Vocal Excellence at the National Folk Festival. Kathryn Clements' warm and engaging manner, glorious voice and humorous stories have resulted in overwhelming listener response. Kathryn performed live to air on ‘Late Night Live’ for St Patrick’s day, with Phillip Adams ’s description of her performance as “exquisite…the voice of an angel.” Kathryn is able to perform acapella or with musical accompaniment by her outstanding 3 piece Band, ‘The Peat Fires.’ Kathryn currently has four CD's including a double album.
